Twee Nguyen for Michelle Power
Michelle Power is a wildlife disease ecologist at Macquarie University who utilises science communication to nurture diversity in STEM.
Twee Nguyen is an emerging fashion designer based in Sydney. Twee is currently a student in the Fashion + Textiles program at UTS.
“I was inspired by Michelle’s passion for the parasites she’s studying as a parasitologist and her fun and witty personality. I gathered all her interesting back stories, such as the comedy she made called “50 shades of shit”, and her favourite parasites (e.g., Eimeria) then combined them with my own play of colours and composition through screen-printing technique. Influenced by her love for pop art and geometric shapes, I made a “Michelle-only” lab coat that is not aiming for a grand gesture or silhouette but rather a subtle amplification and personal celebration of a queer and unique soul like Michelle.”
